Tracy's Version:
As many of you know, Bill and I met during graduate school at The University of Georiga. But, the story actually starts before that... Prior to returning to UGA for my second year of graduate school, I interned at a hospital in Atlanta. My supervisor, who credits herself for our pending nuptials, told me about her friend and former colleague Bill who was starting the Ph.D. program. She asked me to keep my eye out for him and to say hello if we met...I guess I took it a few steps beyond that?
That fall, I ended up in a communications law class that I hated. On the first day during class introductions, I thought I heard someone say his name was Bill (wasn't really paying attention.) He was cute, so after class I re-introduced myself to him and told him about our mutual friend.
Basically, the rest goes something like this...after traveling in groups for happy hours and other social events for two months, the group dwindled down to myself and Bill (all part of my plan). Then, after twisting his arm for him to admit that he liked me (those who grew up with me are probably nodding in agreement), Bill and I had our first date -- we went to see "Boogie Nights" -- bad, bad first date movie choice. But, we survived and the rest is history.
Bill's Version:
Tracy left out the best part. On one of our group jaunts, we won a trivia contest. Tracy volunteered to pick up the prizes -- movie tickets -- from the radio station sponsoring the contest.
I was minding my own business one day, relaxing at home, when I heard a knock on the door. I opened it to find Tracy standing there. She asked, "Do you have a phone book? I couldn't find the radio station and need to call them." I had suspected that she liked me but that clinched it. She could have stopped at any gas station for a phone book, right?
So, after using my phone book, we started talking about life and such. She danced around the issue at hand for a while before I mercifully said, "Yes, I like you too." She nodded, said OK, and walked out the door.
At that moment I'm thinking, "did I just make a fool of myself?" Maybe she wanted to tell me we shouldn't spend so much time together, and I just reinforced her fears.
She said later that I should have known I liked her -- "Why else would I come over?" But when was the last time a guy accurately read a woman's mind (unless she wanted him to)? Oh well, it all worked out, and here we are.
